March 7-12 was National Boys & Girls Club Week, with nearly 4,000 clubs throughout the United States holding celebrations in honor of their organization.  As described on their website, Boys & Girls Clubs help youth find great futures through fun, educational and innovative programs.

Here in Port Isabel, an Open House took place on Saturday, March 12th, and the Laguna Madre Boys & Girls Club on Port Road was packed with kids of all ages enjoying the many activities set up for their enjoyment. There were sack races, jump rope and push-up challenges, face painting, a bouncy house, and a variety of games for them to participate in. They were also giving away eight tablet computers and awarding a youth of the month, as well as electing a student president, vice president, treasurer and secretary.
