An unidentified man was transported to Valley Regional Hospital in Brownsville in serious condition after emergency responders found him with a visible head injury and unresponsive Wednesday night.

South Padre Island EMS responded to a call about an accident with injuries at approximately 11 p.m., according to a statement released by the City. “Treatment was performed immediately to stabilize the patient” before being transported to the hospital, the statement reads.

In a video that went viral on social media late Wednesday night, the man can be seen lying flat on his back on the road. Blood is visible on his face and surrounding his head. Bystanders call to him just before what appears to be a medic arrives on the scene.

“Emergency personnel learned through witness’ statements that the young man had fallen from the back of a pickup truck while it was leaving the parking lot of a nearby store, landing on his head,” the City’s statement reads.
