Port Isabel High runner Natalie Garza has qualified for the UIL State Track and Field Meet. She did it by placing a close third in the 400-meter dash at last week’s Region IV meet in Kingsville.
Garza ran a personal-best 57.52 seconds in the finals of the 400 meters. It was a photo finish as her time was just one-hundredth of a second slower than the second place finisher, Watson Acacia of Wharton. Sinton’s Marlee Serrano was first with a time of 56.50.
“She ran a really good race,” P.I. track coach Julie Breedlove told the Press this week. “I asked for a review on the camera and they got back to me and let me know that the other girl’s torso did cross the line first.”
