Former Port Isabel High student-athlete Gabby Torres is home for the summer after completing her freshman year at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). She sat down recently with the Press and shared her thoughts on her first year of college.
At Port Isabel High Torres was an outstanding student who also excelled athletically. She graduated second in the class of 2015 and was the District 32-4A gold medalist in the high jump and long jump all four years of her high school career. She was 7th in the high jump at the state track and field meet as a junior in 2014.
As a senior Torres, collected five gold medals at the 2015 District 32-4A meet. She won the 100-meter hurdles in addition to the two jumping events, and also ran on the victorious 4×200-meter and 4×400-meter teams. The 4×400 team also qualified for the regional meet.
