A virtual wildfire ignited across social media Monday, eventually spreading to media outlets across the country after an open letter lambasting Donald Trump went viral. The letter was penned by the Valley’s own Filemon Vela, the democratic congressman of Texas’ 34th District.
In the letter, which was sent to media outlets in both English and Spanish, Vela delivered scathing criticisms of the presumptive Republican nominee for president. Vela called the New York real estate mogul racist, telling Trump to “take your border wall and shove it up your (expletive).”
Trump has received a fair share of criticism for his off-the-cuff remarks throughout his campaign, including remarks that he would build a wall along the US-Mexico border for which he “will make Mexico pay for that wall.” Most recently, he has come under fire for questioning the impartiality of the federal judge overseeing the civil case against his now defunct Trump University.
