Man escapes police custody

A Houston man is facing multiple charges after escaping police custody early Sunday morning and leading authorities on a pursuit that spanned several counties.

Adam Joseph Elliot, 36, faces two counts of assault on a peace officer, one count of aggravated assault on a peace officer, attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer, escape, one count of aggravated kidnapping and one count of aggravated robbery, said Port Isabel Det. Armando Mora Monday. Elliot faces additional charges from DPS, and in Kenedy and Kleberg Counties.

It all began around 4 a.m. Sunday, shortly after a Laguna Vista police officer transported Elliot to the Port Isabel City Jail after taking him into custody on an assault charge. The officer requested backup from Port Isabel Police during the booking procedure.
