PIISD talks budget, insurance

The Point Isabel School District Board of Trustees met last Thursday for a special meeting, the purpose of which was two-fold: to discuss and vote on time-sensitive issues regarding insurance for the District, as well as to begin the first of many workshops to be held over the next few months to finalize next year’s budget, which must be approved by the end of August.

The first item was to recommend approval and renew the agreement between the District and TASB Risk Management Fund/Property Casualty Program out of Austin for the 2016-2017 school year. As explained by Deputy Superintendent for Business and Operations Henry LeVrier, “This is property insurance and liability for the whole district.”

The cost increased from last year — $102,931 from $99,280. Board member Mickey Furcron asked, “I see we’ve got one total amount. So, everything is lumped together, we don’t have an amount per building?”
