The Port Isabel Lady Tarpons volleyball team is hosting its annual Volley at the Beach tournament this weekend. Twelve teams, representing schools big and small, are on hand for the three-day event which got underway on Thursday.
P.I.’s second tournament in as many weeks will give the Lady Tarpons an early look at several of their district rivals, including Progreso, which Port Isabel faced in a first-round match on Thursday.
Port Isabel played its first match against PSJA Southwest at 1:00 o’clock, Thursday. Pool play matches against Progreso and Santa Rosa followed later in the afternoon and early evening.
The Lady Tarpons played at Harlingen South Tuesday night and lost in three sets, 9-25, 13-25, 13-25.
“Our passing was off,” head P.I. coach Julie Breedlove said Wednesday morning. “We started off slow and it was hard to get back in the game.”
