With only two matches left to play before next week’s district opener, the Port Isabel Lady Tarpons volleyball team stepped up their game Tuesday night and exorcised the Lady Devils of Monte Alto in straight sets.
They won 25-14, 25-20, 25-16. They trailed only briefly, at the start of each set, and early in the third set, when Monte Alto scored five straight points to lead, 9-7.
The freshmen, JV, and Varsity squads will all be in action at Lyford this Saturday (Sept. 3) morning, and district play will start next Tuesday, Sept. 6 with a home match against Raymondville.
“I was real proud of the girls,” P.I. head coach Julie Breedlove said after the match. “They kept pushing and kept pushing. I think they did a real good job of coming out and playing hard, and taking care of serve/receive. The girls did a pretty good job of getting to the ball.”
