The Port Isabel High Silver Tarpon Marching Band was finally able to compete in their first marching contest of the season last weekend. The band placed third overall in the Queen City Marching Contest at Mercedes on Saturday and were awarded First Division standing by the judges.
By the schedule, this would have been the second contest of the season, but the band had to stay home from the Deep River contest at Rio Hondo, held on Oct. 1. Several practices in the week leading up to that competition were rained out, and some key props and equipment failed to come in on time.
