The Port Isabel Tarpons lost last Friday night’s football game to the Bobcats of Rio Hondo, 21-7, in the first district game of the season for both teams.
The game ended Port Isabel’s five-game winning streak to start the season and extended Rio Hondo’s streak to three games. The Tarpons start the District 16-4A, Div. II season 0-1, and the Bobcats are 1-0.
Rio Hondo made it look easy as they scored touchdowns on their second and third offensive series to take a 14-0 first-quarter lead.
“They came to play and we didn’t,” Tarpon Head Coach Monty Stumbaugh said after the game. “Too many mistakes – that’s the bottom line.”
