Amaral produces clothing with tropical island flare
Special to the PRESS
Anyone from former Miss Teen USA Danielle Doty to local television news anchor Amber Dixon can be seen wearing Designs by Rocio. There is an outfit suited for people from all walks of life and tastes. For over a decade, Port Isabel resident Rocio Amaral has been designing her own clothing line often described as elegant, casual beach wear for all occasions, or what local residents call, “Island Chic.”
What’s the name of your clothing line/business?
“Designs by Rocio.”
When did you start to produce your clothes?
“I started over a decade ago, but I learned from my sisters as a teenager.”
What inspired you to produce your own clothing line?
“I wanted to bring a little bit of the elegant beach wear influence and style I would see when I was raised in Mexico and living in Puerto Vallarta. It very much has a tropical influence.”
How would you describe your clothing line?
“I would call it elegant beach wear. It’s very free-flowing and breathable. I use 100 percent cotton. It’s something you can wear on the beach and then later to dinner or on a boat.”
Where can the public find your clothes?
“Right now, my clothes are located at three locations: Irresistible, located at 712 N. 77 Sunshine Strip #1, Harlingen; and Tesori located at 407 Maxan St. in Port Isabel.
What makes your line stand apart from others?
“From the moment you try one of my designs, you will feel how comfortable and well-made they are. I’ve been told that you can wear any one of my pieces inside-out because of how well the seams are finished.”
