Animal lovers gathered at Casa Mariposa on South Padre Island last Friday evening for the annual Meows, Mutts and Margaritas (MMM) fundraiser to benefit the Laguna Madre Humane Society.
Patrons enjoyed a variety of flavorful margaritas, along with a buffet and numerous auction items over the course of the evening. Live music and a photo booth provided plenty of entertainment opportunities for the guests, including Debo Bockholt of Laguna Vista who was attending her third MMM.
“Events like these are extremely important, because we need to have animals in our lives,” Bockholt said. “I don’t spend a lot of money on the auctions, but I donate items to the auctions.”
Sandy Thomas, manager of Whiskers and Things, a resale shop on the Island whose proceeds benefit the LMHS, emphasized this critical need. “We raise all our own funds; we are not funded by any municipality. We get occasional grants from the state, but we are always in need of donations and volunteers,” Thomas said.
