Four Port Isabel Lady Tarpons competed at last week’s UIL Region IV Class 4-A Track and Field Meet at Kingsville. Two of them ended the day with personal bests in their events and ended their high school careers on high notes.

Natalie Garza came up just short of qualifying for her third straight state meet in the 400 -meter dash. She timed in at 1:01.04 minutes in the prelims for the 400 meters and made the finals as the seventh-fastest qualifier, and was fifth in the finals of the event with a time of 1:00.25 minutes.

The top two finishers in each event qualified for the state meet. Garza’s time was barely a second slower than second place finisher Lornell Fuller (59.22 seconds) of Freeport-Brazos.
