The Port Isabel Lady Tarpons made the long trip up the Rio Grande Valley to Zapata Tuesday to play their district opener basketball game, and were defeated, 52-44.
“We put ourselves in a hole,” Head Coach Hannah Burleson said Wednesday morning. “We start off 0-1 in district against a team we should have beat. Not to take away anything from Raymondville — they showed up and played hard,” she said.
Last Friday Port Isabel lost to St. Joseph’s Academy, 56-76, in Brownsville.
The Lady Tarpons started the season on a hot streak, winning their first four games and going 8-3 through 11 games. Since beating Lyford on the road on Nov. 19, they’ve gone 1-9.
