Second causeway access still on hold

The Cameron County Regional Mobile Authority did not have good news for Laguna Vista leaders Tuesday in addressing the status of the access project required for a second causeway locally.

Pete Sepulveda, executive director of the CCRMA, said the project remains “on hold.”

“It’s been on hold since December 2017. TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation) changed their policy on dealing with toll projects,” he said of the proposed $750 million project which would include an eight-mile toll bridge spanning the Laguna Madre from near Holly Beach to Andy Bowie Park on South Padre Island.

However, Sepulveda said, there is some hope that the current legislative session may bring forth bills to remedy the situation.
