Winning streaks abound for Tarpon Basketball

The Girls basketball team is on a three-game winning streak after its recent wins over Progreso (37-33) and Raymondville (40-35). Sabrina Gonzalez who missed the last few games was back to scoring on fast break points finishing with 12 points versus Raymondville. The Lady Tarpons have now gone 6-2 in their last eight games, holding strong in third place in district behind front-runners Hidalgo and Rio Hondo. The Lady Tarpons are sporting a 16-11 overall record, 6-2 in district. They’ll be looking to keep the winning streak alive when the travel to La Feria to take on the Lady Lions this Friday at 6:30 p.m. In their previous meeting the Lady Tarpons beat the Lady Lions 39-35.

The Boys basketball team (20-8 Overall, 5-3 District) is riding a two-game winning streak after beating the Progreso Red Ants (63-41) and Raymondville Bearkats (72-36). Kaiden Martinez returned to the court after missing the last two games and picked up another double-double (13 points/11 rebounds). The Tarpons size advantage as of late have led to a rebounding frenzy by the Tarpons. They have built sizable leads which enabled some newer faces to have more playing time, such as Gilbert Medina who scored 15 points versus Raymondville. The Tarpons will be traveling to La Feria on Friday with a game time of 8:00 p.m. In their previous meeting the Tarpons beat the Lions 51-49.
