Matthew and Krystal Wyatt, founders of OneTwo church, have embarked on a new journey that is spreading their church’s reach to both sides of the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway. With the help of Allan and Terri Thompson, and Mike and Marietta Williams, they have opened a ministry of OneTwo Church in Port Isabel. The ministry is named RENEW, and according to Matthew Wyatt, pastor of OneTwo, it will provide many services, including a thrift shop with prices affordable for everyone, one on one counseling, addiction recovery meetings, support for victims of domestic violence and much more.
“It is all going to be funded through the vessel of the thrift store,” he said.
The process of having the vision and seeing it come into fruition has been incredibly expedited according to the entire team, and though overwhelming at times, according to the pastor, he believes “the timing of this is only God.”
When Mike and Marietta Williams moved to South Padre Island three and half years ago, after living in Marble Falls for 20 years, they began looking for a church, but according to him, they didn’t find one that he felt fit. Only a couple weeks after OneTwo began conducting services, a friend of theirs recommended that they try out the church. Marietta Williams said it felt like home after receiving a hug when walking in for the first time.
“That was the biggest thing,” said Marietta Williams on what made OneTwo different.
Her husband agrees that the church feels like family to them, and they attend weekly.
Allan and Terri Thompson, a married couple formally residing in Illinois, moved to South Padre Island in March of 2020, leaving their church behind.
“We know God moved us, to move here. We weren’t sure why, and then we met Matt and Krystal,” said Allan Thompson.
He says that their community back home had a ministry with a similar vision of Renew, people donating items and the thrift store selling them for cheap prices, to fund the helping of the community. According to him, he has seen this process “fund all sorts of ministry.”
Allan and Terri Thompson approached Matthew and Krystal Wyatt with this idea. According to Matthew Wyatt, He and his wife have always been passionate about counseling, and Allan and Terri Thompson were always passionate about a thrift store.
“When they presented us with this building…this idea… we saw that all of that could come together as one,” said the pastor.
