Special to the PRESS
LOS FRESNOS—The 33rd Annual Los Fresnos rodeo kicks off Friday and runs through Sunday, featuring the acts we all know and love plus new musical performances, including a show from headliner Michael Ray.
The Los Fresnos Rodeo Committee received a $50,000 Hometown Grant from T-Mobile late last year, which they used to build a permanent stage for the event and pave the midway at the Rodeo Grounds. The Hometown Grant is to aid small towns in their recurring projects that aim to bring families together.
Gates open at 5 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. on Saturday, and noon on Sunday. However, the livestock area will be open to the public from 8 a.m.-11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday.
The entrance into the fairgrounds is free but $10 for parking. Tickets for Friday’s Rodeo and concert are $25 and $20 for concert only.
Saturday’s prices are $35 in advance for the rodeo and concert and $25 for the concert only. On the day of the event, prices go up to $40 for the combined events and $30 for concert only.
Sunday’s prices are $16 in advance for the rodeo and $20 the day of the event. Tickets can also be purchased at the following ticket outlets: Los Fresnos City Hall, Los Fresnos Police Department, Boot Jack Stores Valley-wide and Stitch Gallery in Harlingen.
Beginning Friday, Feb. 17, at 5 p.m. with the regular rodeo events such as competitions and the carnival, there will also be a performance by the Ashley Falls Band of Harlingen from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Tejas Equipment Rental Corral tent.
Immediately following the rodeo, spectators can stick around for the Eagles/Ronstadt Experience Tribute Band from Los Angeles, slated to begin at 10 p.m. at the T-Mobile Events Stage. They are described on the Los Fresnos Rodeo website as “a band of accomplished musicians dedicated to bringing to audiences an exciting concert experience of the two most iconic and popular artists of Rock: Linda Ronstadt & The Eagles.”
The Los Fresnos Rodeo recommends attendees arrive at least two hours before each rodeo performance as attendance has increased over the past years with an estimated 25,000 people attending the rodeo over the weekend.
