On March 25, 2023, Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Laguna Heights area, in reference to a female that had been stabbed.
arrival, the female victim was immediately transported to the hospital for further evaluation and the suspect had fled the scene.
In the preliminary investigation, the deputies secured the crime scene, gathered witness statements and were able to locate the knife used in the assault. At that time, the investigation was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division.
CCSO Investigators conducted a follow-up at the hospital with the victim, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
As per the victim, she had gotten into a verbal argument. According to her, she was stabbed several times in the abdomen and she identified the suspect as Lem Bernay Sheffield. A search was conducted for Sheffield but he was not found within the area.
