The Dining Room showcases the talents of El Paseo

Special to the PRESS

El Paseo Arts Foundation opens a local production of “The Dining Room” by A. R. Gurney on April 10, 2023, for a three-night run. The play is set in a single dining room of a typical well-to-do family, although representing different households throughout different time periods. The focus of the play is the room where the family assembled daily for breakfast, dinner, dinner parties, special occasions and occasionally, turmoil. The storyline creates a mosaic of interrelated scenes, some funny, some touching, and some harsh.      Which, when viewed together, creates an in-depth portrait of the vanishing upper-middle-class family.
The incredible cast of eight, four men and four women, take on 57 different characters varying in age, personalities and periods of time, all with minimal costume changes. Cast members include Alexandrea Bailey, Guadalupe Munoz, Alexa McGarraugh, Kreig Kohl, David Boughter, Andrea Wright, Connie Munoz and Danny Dollar. This cast brings to life an incredible theater experience of overlapping vignettes filled with humor and humanity in which traditions and formality are being replaced by a generation who have rejected or lost sight of the family dinner at the dining room table.
Director Julie Boughter stated she feels this is a real “actor’s play” with the incredible challenge of playing five to ten roles per actor. This script allows the actors to work on focus and timing while developing a large range in exploring each character. Assistant Director Chrissy Dijkman and Stage Manager Melanie Wilson round out the team to bring this quality production to the stage.
