Eddie Del Angel inspires connection

Special to the PARADE

This April, the South Padre Parade brings its readers another exclusive coloring page, designed by a local artist. “Underwater Eas ter Egg Hunt” was illustrated by the Art Business Incubator South Padre Island’s own Eddie Del Angel, the artist behind DelAngelARTE on Facebook and Instagram, and CHIN-GÓN, an upcoming solo exhibit at ABISPI.

“I didn’t want to be an artist growing up as a kid,” admitted Angel.

As a child in Matamoras, Mexico, Angel says he was more into sports and video games, but had the dream of one day being an architect. It was a dream he would pursue as he attended the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley in Brownsville.

While there, due to his lack of creative experience in the past, he began taking a drawing class as an
elective.

“I realized I had never drawn before,” laughed Angel. “I thought it might be a good skill to have as an architect.”

According to Angel, the single semester of this class was the first time he had applied himself to il lustration. After leaving school, he didn’t let up on his new hobby, leading to a great advance in his talent.

He began trying new things, including painting. Not long after, Angel found himself participating in his
first exhibition.
