SPIGCC Market Days celebrates one-year anniversary

The South Padre Island Golf Club Community Social started its biweekly market days one year ago in an effort to create something that would draw in more community involvement. With about 70 registered vendors, the committee has created a successful market days event that has something for everyone.

SPIGCC Social started hosting events to bring the community together, member Teresa Bryant explained.

“The committee does other events in the community as well, and when we were thinking about ways to increase community involvement, somebody suggested that we do a farmers market,” Bryant said.

The market started with zero vendors at first, and now it’s grown as big as it is, according to Bryant.

“We started by cold calling vendors and visiting other markets to see who would be interested in coming to ours,” Bryant said.

Bryant explained that one of the vendors said that now the market sees over 200 people for each event.

“Even if it rains, we don’t cancel; our community loves the market, whether inside or outside,” Bryant said.
SPIGCC member Johanna Bunker said that the market takes place the first and third Tuesday of every month from 4-6 p.m.

“The market is free; we don’t charge anything to get in,” said Bunker.

Most of the vendors at the market are always here and are regulars, according to Bunker. “We usually have about 18-25 vendors at any given market,” said Bunker.

The Market Days vendors include local businesses such as PW Farms, Peggy’s Cakes, JB Cutting Boards, Stampin on Laguna, Chateau Leigh, E & G Sweet Treats and more. With the wide array of vendors, there is something for everyone to take part in.
