On May 16, 2023, Point Isabel ISD held its monthly school board meeting, which takes place in the Central Administration Building Board Room on the third Tuesday of the month.
The school board started the meeting by swearing in its new Chief of Police, Hector Martinez, who has been with the district for over 20 years. Not only did the board welcome their new police chief, but they also recognized National Law Enforcement Week, where they acknowledged the district’s police officers and their efforts to keep the school and the community safe.
“One thing that the past year has taught us is the importance of law enforcement, not only in the school district but in our community as well,” Superintendent Theresa Capistran said. “I want everyone in our school district to see the great men that are leading and ensuring that all of our students and staff are safe.”
Justice of the Peace Benito “Bo” Ochoa swore in newly elected board of trustee members. The first person to be sworn again was Frank Davalos Jr., who was reelected for place six.
“I’m honored to serve again and I thank you guys very much for your confidence and I’m ready to get to work again,” Davalos Jr. said.
Next, re-elected for place seven was Cecilia Castillo.
“I’ve served on this board for 16 years and I want to thank everyone for their continuous support,” Castillo said. “I really thank God for guiding me for this whole journey…I am very blessed to serve with a strong leadership team and it is not about me, it is about the students,” Castillo said.
