This past Saturday, May 13, Sea Turtle Inc hosted its second annual Kemps Krawl 5K family fun run on the beach sponsored by the City of South Padre Island and Holiday Inn Resort.
This year Sea Turtle Inc decided to go in a different direction than last year by eliminating awards for the fastest times. Sea Turtle Inc.’s CEO, Wendy Knight, said that by doing this, the run became a more family-friendly event where those of all ages were invited to participate.
“We started thinking about it, and although SPI has some avid runners, it is such a great family destination as well,” Knight said.
With the start time for runners being 8 a.m. and the start time for families being 8:15 a.m., Knight said the run catered to both.
“By staggering our start times, we allowed runners looking to prepare for their qualifying runs to do so still,” said Knight.
For children participating, there were education stations that the kids could stop at throughout the run to learn more about the sea turtles and what Sea Turtle Inc. does, said Knight.
