SHARK MEASURES 12-FEET LONG
The Galveston Civilian says: “Many sharks have recently been caught here-some of them large. A few days since one was taken near the Point, by the schooner L.M. Hitchcock, which measured 12 feet in length. Its mouth, after the head had been cut off and the jaws distended, is said to be as large as the end of a flour barrel. Bathers and fishers, especially boys, would do well to be on guard against these monsters of the sea.” (Editor’s note: this was originally published in the Telegraph and Texas Register on August 27, 1845.)
