On Tuesday, Texas State Representative Janie Lopez (R-SAN BENITO, DISTRICT 37) announced the successful allocation of state funding for two pivotal maritime projects within State House District 37.
Following the approval and distribution of $200 million under Texas Senate Bill 30 during the 88th Legislative Session in 2023 for the Maritime Infrastructure Program (MIP) by the Texas Transportation Commission, port officials said Lopez’s efforts proved instrumental in ensuring the prosperity of local ports.
Firstly, Lopez advocated for the Port of Mansfield, securing $8,712,768 for its bulkhead repair project, significantly enhancing its infrastructure and efficiency.
“This investment underscores the state’s dedication to strengthening our maritime infrastructure,” said Lopez. “It not only promotes economic growth but also guarantees the safety and efficiency of our ports.”
Additionally, Lopez played a role in the Port of Brownsville’s expansion, securing $11,565,621 for the Bulk Cargo Dock No. 3 Rehabilitation and Expansion project. This funding marks a milestone for the community, fostering local business opportunities and job creation.
