Point Isabel Independent School District (PI-ISD), a 4A public school, has reason to celebrate student musical excellence in the new year after Silver Tarpon Band members participated in the recent Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) and Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State auditions.
According to PI-ISD, on January 6, 19 high school band students competed at the 6A Area level, and four earned the prestigious title of Texas All-State Musicians. This honor is especially competitive for 4A contestants, due to smaller staff levels..
One exceptional student, Adrian Jimenez-Murat, earned 1st chair Euphonium, 3-time All-State Musician (ATSSB 2-time, TMEA 1-time), a historical first for PI-ISD. Less than 1% of Texas high school students can achieve 6A TMEA All-State Musician, and this has earned Jimenez-Murat a spot to play with the TMEA All-State band in San Antonio, as reported by PI-ISD.
The four exceptional talents include Adrian Jimenez-Murat, 11th grade – 1st chair Euphonium, 3-time All-State Musician (ATSSB 2-time, TMEA 1-time); Mark Mejorado, 11th grade – 2nd chair Flute, 3-time All-State Musician; Diego Ruiz, 11th grade – 2nd chair Percussion, and Sean Selvas, 11th grade – 2nd chair Tuba as stated by PI-ISD.
As reported by PI-ISD, these outstanding achievements are a testament to not only their talent but their hard work and dedication as well, especially as they competitively place among the larger schools. The Silver Tarpon program’s successes also illustrate the exceptional guidance of the music educators at Port Isabel Early College High School.
