Hinojosa runs for constable

Port Isabel native Manny Hinojosa, III announced his candidacy for Cameron County Pct. 1 Constable.

Born and raised in Port Isabel, Hinojosa is a Port Isabel High School Class of 1990 graduate. In a prepared statement to the PRESS, Hinojosa explained that during his high school career, he was involved in football and was a member of the Silver Tarpon Band.

Hinojosa goes on to note that he a graduated from the Texas Southmost College Police Academy in March of 1993, and began employment at the Cameron County Constable Pct. 1 office where he started as a deputy and advanced to sergeant. He then joined the Town of Combes Police Department as a Patrol Sergeant before being offered an administrator/patrol sergeant position with the Driscoll Police Department in Driscoll, TX.

Following a stint at Driscoll, he became a patrolman for the Mercedes Police Department, and later a patrolman for the Town of Laguna Vista Police Department. The Port Isabel Police Department was his next place of employment, where he advanced to Sergeant of the PIPD Patrol Division.

He then continued his educational journey at the University of Texas – Brownsville and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Service Administration.

His next place of employment was with Southwest Keys as a Shift Leader, supervising 285 undocumented children and 15 childcare workers before joining the Progreso Police Department as the Sergeant of the Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations.

Hinojosa then returned the Cameron County Constable’s offices as a Pct. 3 Mental Health Deputy Constable. He is currently employed at Prime Incorporated as a 50-State Transportation Driver.

The candidate also recounts his firsthand knowledge of what is needed in the Laguna Madre area, citing his educational background, along with professionalism, accountability, and 30 years of law enforcement experience.

In an interview, Hinojosa said that he has, “The right experience,” and is, “The right choice for constable,” adding, “I will bring back police, enforce traffic laws, and increase safety in the Laguna Madre area.”
Containing his prepared statement, Hinojosa remarked, “I will work together with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. I will be transparent. I will have an open-door policy, and I will respectfully serve you, the community, because your voice matters.”

He concluded by noting, “With your vote and support, I can make this happen; and together, we can keep our great community safe.”

Hinojosa will be running in the Republican candidate field and will face Republican Incumbent Norman W. Esquivel Jr. in the Republican Primary Election.

The winner of the March 5, 2024 Republican Primary will face the Democratic Primary in the November 2024 General Election.

Cameron County Pct. 1 Constable’s Office encompasses the totality of the Laguna Madre area, including the communities of South Padre Island, port Isabel, Laguna Heights, Laguna Vista, Bayview, Long Island, and a portion of Brownsville.

Early voting commences on February 20, 2024, at 305 E. Maxan St., Port Isabel, TX., and runs through March 1, 2024.
