After a two-year absence from the playoffs, the Lady Tarpons made a triumphant return this season. They finished second in the district standings with an impressive 13-9 overall record, including a 1-1 playoff record.

Their season concluded with a hard-fought match against Calallen in the Area round of the playoffs, ending in a loss but not without a valiant effort.

The team got off to a rough 1-4 start when they competed in the Brownsville tournament versus 5A and 6A teams, but the experience they gained in the tournament was invaluable. The team went on to win their next two games, followed by a 4-3 loss to last year’s district champs, Idea Riverview Rockets. Their next matchup was another close as they took La Feria into overtime but eventually lost 2-1.

The resilient Lady Tarpons then reeled off four straight wins before losing again to the Lady Rockets. After the loss, Port Isabel bounced back and took a five-game winning streak into the playoffs.

In the Bi-district round of the playoffs, the team traveled to Progresso to take on the Lady Red Ants. The game was intense and close, with Port Isabel on top 1-0. Port Isabel’s Mia Perdomo scored the lone goal in the second half, while goalkeeper Desiree Vidaurri’s impressive play led to the shutout.

Captain Luara Mosqueda had several steals, assists, and shots taken. Meanwhile, the defense led by Katy Espinoza and Dulce Pardo was vital in holding the Lady Ants to just ten shots on goal.

In the Area round, Port Isabel faced a tough opponent in Calallen (20-2-1). The Lady Wildcats entered the game as heavy favorites, and they quickly showed why, scoring all their goals in the first half (5-0). The Lady Tarpons’ defense stiffened up in the second half, but unfortunately, they were unable to score on offense and lost 5-0.
