Port Isabel City Manager Jared Hockema attended the Democratic National Convention [DNC] on Friday, Aug. 23. The convention is when the Democrats of America rally around their presidential candidate for the upcoming election.

According to their official website, Chicago was chosen as the event’s location because “it’s a Democratic stronghold that was part of the “blue wall” crucial to the Biden-Harris victory in 2020 and will be for a Harris-Walz victory in November.” The website calls Chicago the “perfect place” to host the candidates and their people.

The website foresaw about 50,000 visitors attending the convention, with 5,000 of them being delegates.
Hockema attended the convention as a Democratic delegate.

“It was a joyful time; a time where our party came together. We saw support all across the country for our candidates…Furthermore, you couldn’t help but feel the excitement, the joy and the hope” said Hockema.
Kamala Harris delivered a speech during the convention where she spoke on her upbringing and what she plans to do in her presidency, should she win. Hockema applauded Harris’ commitment to “help everyday people.”
