Port Isabel looks to tame Tigers

By Constancio Martinez Jr.

On Friday, Sept. 13 the 4A Port Isabel Tarpons will be playing in their first road game as they take on the 4A Valley View Tigers in Hidalgo at 7:30 p.m. The Tarpons have never lost to the Tigers since the two started to play against each other in 2006 and it looks like the 10-0 winning streak will continue.
The Tarpons are coming off a week-one 30-6 win over 3A Lyford while the Tigers lost their week-one match to 3A Rio Hondo, 73-20.

The Tigers could not stop Rio Hondo’s passing or running game as they gave up 212 yards and five TDs through the air and 229 yards and four TDs on the ground.

The Tarpons rarely throw the ball, so expect the Tarpon’s rushing attack to come at the Tigers fast and furious.

In their win over the Bulldogs, the Tarpons racked up 348 rushing yards before the subs came in to close the game out, with RB Luis Ramos accounting for 253 yards by himself.

Versus the Tigers, look for the Tarpons’ running back group of Dylan Green, Michael Finona, Ryan Cinfuegos and Bryan Ramirez to chip away three to seven yards at time, then bring Ramos in for the big play.

Also, since Port Isabel only completed one pass during their week one game, expect them to continue to work on their action plays.

Defensively, the Tarpons’ defense only allowed the Bulldogs to score once, but the PI defense was still susceptible to the run.
