The Port Isabel Police Department will host its annual toy drive at the Port Isabel Event Center on Friday, Dec. 20, at 4 p.m.

This drive benefits the children of the Laguna Madre area, Port Isabel, Laguna Heights, Laguna Vista and South Padre Island. Parents can sign up their children for the drive at the Police Department, located at 110 W. Hickman Ave., Port Isabel.

“Anybody and any child that lives in the Laguna Madre is more than welcome to come to the police department.

All we ask is the number of kids and their ages,” explained Chief Robert Lopez.

The deadline to register is Monday Dec. 16. The PD is still accepting unwrapped toy donations for all ages.

The PD also purchases toys on top of the donated items.

According to Lopez, they are expecting to serve 200-300 children. Families will be invited to take photos with Santa and will leave with a printed image. Food and drinks are also provided at the drive as well as door prizes.

Door prizes include five 55-inch TVs as well as $500 in cash prizes.

Lopez says the drive has been an annual tradition for over 20 years.

The Port Isabel Events and Cultural center is located at 309 Railroad St., Port Isabel
