Steve Hathcock has an extensive background in historical preservation and writing focused on South Texas. He has served as Chairman of the Cameron County Historical Commission for two terms and Vice Chair for two terms, having been a member since 2004. He is also a founding member of the Historical Foundation of South Padre Island and will serve an active role in presenting the history of South Padre Island in the foundation’s new museum which will open sometime in late spring/early summer 2025. Moments in Time is a collection of recovered newspaper briefs and other publications, compiled by Hathcock, offering a look back at the history of the Rio Grande Valley.
Grand Lodge to be opened by Doctor C.M. Cash, March 6
Masons will hold meeting for Laying School Cornerstone Under the auspices of the Grand Lodge of Texas, A period F. And A period M., the cornerstone of the Rio Hondo High School will be laid Friday afternoon., March 6th. It was announced today. Doctor C. M. Cash has been named grandmaster to preside at the ceremony, and he will convene a session of the Grand Lodge under special dispensation Friday afternoon. The new school building, one of the finest in the valley, has been almost completed and part of it is in use. Because of weather conditions during earlier construction of the building, the cornerstone laying ceremony was postponed. Everybody in Cameron County interested in school work and every Mason is invited to

In March of 2024, The Rio Hondo Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to donate the old high school campus to the City of Rio Hondo. After remodeling, the building, which sits upon two acres of land, began its new life as the city hall and a museum to preserve local history.
