A man is now in custody after jumping off of the Queen Isabella Causeway Monday morning during a police pursuit with South Padre Island Police.
According to Erin Welch, operations chief for the U.S. Coast Guard, her team was notified about the man that had jumped the bridge, and an air marine operations unit under Customs and Border Patrol was able to recover him.
Welch said the man was then transported to the Coast Guard station with minor injuries. The SPI paramedics were there to treat him on site.
Port Isabel Police Chief Robert Lopez said the incident happened on the westbound lanes, which is handled by the SPI Police.
We are expected to get more information on this investigation as it becomes available from the City of South Padre Island.
