LAGUNA VISTA, Texas — A man is dead after an apparent self‑inflicted gunshot wound that followed a domestic‑disturbance call Monday evening, according to Laguna Vista police.
Officers were dispatched at 5:07 p.m. on June 23 to a home in the 400 block of Banker Street, where they spoke with a woman outside who reported a physical altercation inside the residence. As officers moved to contact the suspect, he bolted out a rear door and vaulted a back‑yard fence, police said.
The officers circled to adjoining Saunders Street in their patrol unit, hoping to intercept the fleeing man. Spotting the cruiser, the suspect turned back and climbed over the fence onto his own property.
While the officers approached on foot, they heard a gunshot from the yard. They secured the perimeter and waited for backup from Port Isabel police. A second gunshot rang out as the combined units entered the yard moments later.
Officers found the suspect lying face‑down with a firearm beside him. After handcuffing and turning him over, they discovered a chest wound. Emergency medical personnel were called but pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Investigators say none of the responding officers discharged their weapons. Preliminary findings—and a later forensic pathology report—determined the fatal shot was self‑inflicted. The man’s identity has not yet been released pending family notification.
No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident. The investigation remains open.
