Special to the PARADE
If you’re cruising down Padre Blvd. on South Padre Island and suddenly find yourself in need of something cold, colorful, and maybe a little crazy—in the best way—pull into the Lifted Daiquiri and Beer Barn, the island’s only drive-thru daiquiri and beer stop. Located directly across from Whataburger at 3508 Padre Blvd, this laid-back “get the party started” spot is as convenient as it is fun, offering everything from daiquiris to micheladas, cookies, and even cigars.
My guests and I were welcomed by owner Andrew Kassan, who took over the Lifted Daiquiri & Beer Barn last year. The business originally opened in 2021 as a creative pivot during the COVID-19 era and has since evolved into a popular go-to spot for locals and tourists alike. Now a full-time South Padre resident, Kassan brings a clear sense of purpose and energy to the operation—and he’s got plenty of ideas for what’s next. His enthusiasm for the business is evident as he talks about both what he’s doing and what he hopes to do next with Lifted.
Lifted may look like a fun novelty spot (and it is), but it also delivers on quality, service, and variety. We tried every daiquiri flavor on the menu, both virgin and spiked, and except for one (which came down to personal taste), we genuinely enjoyed them all. The Bob Marley (which looks like the Jamaican flag)—a layered rainbow of Liquid MJ, Maui Wowie, and Strawberry—was a hit, as was the Tequila Sunrise, which blended Margarita, Mango, and Pink Mamba for a refreshing tropical combo. If you’re into bold flavors, try the Banana Runtz, a funky blend of banana and Liquid MJ.
But this place is more than just drinks. The menu is impressively wide-ranging:
· Daiquiris in all sizes and styles, including refillable souvenir cups shaped like aliens, boots, fishbowls, and more—making return trips even more tempting.
· Jello shots at $2 each, or get a whole tray for a beach party at discounted prices.
· Micheladas (basic or loaded) with customizable add-ons like spicy pickles or habanero—we tried both and were pleasantly surprised by the bold, briny heat.
· Beer by the case or single serving, with all the familiar favorites: Bud, Coors, Dos XX, Modelo, Tecate, and more.
· Munchies like Frito pie, nachos, and Hot Cheetos to round out the visit.
· And yes—homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches, made to order using fresh-baked cookies and Blue Bell ice cream.
You can walk up, drive through (golf carts welcome and common!), and chat with the friendly staff—who never rush and are always happy to explain the menu or recommend a combo. Kassan mentioned his dream of expanding to include a drive-thru coffee bar in the future—something the early risers of SPI would surely appreciate.
Hours are generous: open 11:00 AM till midnight every night during the season, and until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, making it the perfect nightcap stop after a day at the beach, a fishing trip, or a night stroll down the boulevard.
The Lifted Daiquiri & Beer Barn delivers not just delicious drinks, but island spirit—that blend of ease, cheer, and creativity that keeps people coming back. Whether you’re a local grabbing a refill in your souvenir Teddy bear cup or a first-time visitor trying a spicy michelada for the ‘gram, you’ll feel welcome here.
Cold, convenient, and creatively crafted—don’t cruise through South Padre without a stop at the Lifted Daiquiri & Beer Barn.
