‘I Love SPI’ campaign begins

Special to the PRESS

The City of South Padre Island is inviting residents and businesses to show their love for the Island this Valentine’s Day through the launch of the “I Love SPI” campaign.

In partnership with Republic Services, the City is offering an additional brush and bulky item pickup in addition to the regular monthly service. The campaign runs through February 14, giving the community an opportunity to clear debris and unwanted large items in preparation for the upcoming busy season.

Residents and businesses may place brush and bulky items at the front of their property for collection during the campaign period.

“Participants may even be spotted and rewarded with an I Love SPI T-shirt,” said Victor Baldovinos, Environmental Health Director. “This is a great opportunity to clean up and get ready for the season ahead.”

The City also encourages residents to recycle by taking part in the weekly recycling drop-off held every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Community Center, located at 4501 Padre Boulevard. Accepted recyclable items include aluminum, American flags, batteries, cardboard, ink cartridges and toner, mixed office paper, newspapers, plastics #1 and #2, and tin.

Single-family homes may also subscribe to residential recycling service by contacting Republic Services at (877) 692-9729.

For more information, contact the Environmental Health Services Department at (956) 761-8123.
