Tequila lovers will have a new reason to celebrate on the Texas coast as TequilaCon 2026 makes its debut at Margaritaville Beach Resort South Padre Island from February 27 through March 1. Set against the shoreline of South Padre Island, the inaugural event promises a full weekend dedicated to tastings, education, culinary experiences and live entertainment, all centered around Mexico’s most iconic spirit. Organizers say the goal is to create an immersive and welcoming atmosphere where both seasoned tequila enthusiasts and curious newcomers can learn, explore flavors and enjoy the island’s signature festive energy.
The weekend begins Friday evening with a welcome reception from 6 to 8 p.m., where guests will register, pick up badges and swag bags, and enjoy signature tequila cocktails paired with hors d’oeuvres. Live trio music will provide a relaxed backdrop for networking and opening remarks that officially launch the celebration. Saturday’s programming offers a deep dive into tequila culture, starting with a Bloody Maria bar and Mexican inspired brunch featuring a live cooking station. Attendees receive a complimentary Bloody Maria, while the brunch is also open to the public for purchase, giving locals a chance to sample the experience.
As the day continues, guests can attend educational sessions covering tequila’s origin stories, agave cultivation and traditional harvesting methods. A live piña carving demonstration will showcase how jimadores prepare agave hearts for production, giving attendees a closer look at the craftsmanship behind the spirit. Later, a hands on Margarita Masterclass will guide participants through flavor balance, infusions and creative garnishes, complete with tasting boards and paired bites. Guided tasting sessions in the afternoon will highlight a range of tequila expressions, from Blanco and Reposado to Añejo, Extra Añejo and Cristalino, accompanied by grazing boards and mini educational talks from tequila ambassadors.
The evening transitions into a five-course tequila-paired dinner featuring local ingredients and live acoustic guitar during service, followed by an Afterglow Party with late night cocktails, bites and a five piece Latin band to close out the celebration. On Sunday, guests will hear from featured speaker Elias Ybarra before departures later in the day. Excitement is already building locally. “As someone who enjoys learning about different spirits, I love that this event focuses on education too,” said Jose L., a local resident. “It’s not just about drinking, it’s about understanding where tequila comes from and how it’s made.” By blending education, culinary creativity and lively entertainment in a beachfront setting, TequilaCon aims to establish itself as a signature annual event for South Padre Island and a spirited new tradition along the Gulf Coast. Event details are available through the Margaritaville Beach Resort South Padre Island website.
