The 42nd Annual Causeway Run & Walk is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, bringing runners and walkers from across the region to one of the Laguna Madre area’s most recognized outdoor events.
The race begins in Port Isabel near the Port Isabel Event & Cultural Center and follows a route across the Queen Isabella Causeway, finishing on South Padre Island at the Beach Waterpark. Participants may choose between a 5K or 10K distance.
Hosted by the Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce, the annual event promotes health, tourism and community engagement while highlighting views of the Laguna Madre.
The run typically draws competitive runners, casual walkers and families. Registration includes a finisher’s medal, race bib number and access to a post-race gathering on South Padre Island. The 10K race will be officially timed, while the 5K will not be timed. Event T-shirts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
“This is one of those events people look forward to every year,” said Port Isabel resident Laura Martinez. “Crossing the bridge with the water all around you is something you don’t get to experience every day.”
Shuttle service will be available for registered participants before and after the race. Prior to the event, shuttles will run from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. from Sutherlands in Port Isabel and from the Beach Waterpark on South Padre Island, transporting participants to the start line. After the race, shuttles will be available at the finish line to return participants to Sutherlands and areas near the starting location.
Organizers recommend that participants arriving after 6 a.m. park in Port Isabel to ensure timely access to the start line.
Registration details, start times and additional event information are available through the Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce.
