Authorities say four people from Harlingen have been taken into custody following a hit-and-run crash in Laguna Heights that left a pedestrian seriously injured.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident happened late March near State Highway 100 and Adams Street. Investigators say the driver struck a pedestrian around midnight and did not stop to help.

Weeks later, troopers located the suspected vehicle — identified as a black Chevrolet Sonic — and made arrests in connection with the case.

The driver, 26-year-old Hector Ulises Guzman-Soto, is facing charges related to failing to stop and render aid as well as tampering with evidence. Three others who were in the vehicle — Valerie Rainy Alvarez, Viviana Clarissa Sanchez, and Abelardo Pena — were also arrested, accused of not reporting the incident.

Officials say the victim remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition. All four suspects were booked into the Cameron County Jail as the investigation continues.
