The 26th Annual Shallow Sport & SCB Owners Tournament is scheduled for May 7–9, bringing anglers and boat owners to the Lower Laguna Madre for a weekend of fishing competition and community events.

Participants will compete in Guided, Amateur, and Youth divisions, with teams selecting either artificial-only or open bait categories during registration. Each team may weigh in a three-fish stringer consisting of one redfish, one speckled trout, and one flounder — species commonly targeted in the Lower Laguna Madre.

Tournament activities begin Friday with registration, team packet pickup, and a captain’s meeting at the South Padre Island Convention Center. Additional activities are scheduled for participants throughout the evening.

On Saturday, teams will depart following an early morning boat check-in and parade, with fishing taking place throughout the day. Weigh-in is scheduled for the afternoon at Louie’s Backyard, followed by an awards banquet that evening at the convention center.

Awards will be presented across divisions, with youth participants also receiving commemorative trophies. According to tournament information, proceeds from the event support the Shallow Sport Scholarship Fund, which awards more than $20,000 in scholarships annually.

The event also includes a raffle drawing at the conclusion of Saturday’s awards banquet, with a Shallow Sport boat, motor, and trailer listed among the prizes.

“It’s a chance to get out on the water, compete, and spend time with other anglers who enjoy the same kind of fishing,” Armando Leal, a local participant, said.
