As the 2025-2026 school season comes to a conclusion, we wrap up the season’s All-District awards with boys’ soccer and golf.

In boys’ soccer, team Captain Luis Ulloa was not only the heart and soul of the team, but he was also one heck of a goalie. Thanks to his outstanding performance on the field, he was selected as the district’s Defensive MVP.

Other Port Isabel defensive selections were Derrek Herrera 1st Team, Ivan Callejas 2nd Team; Honorable Mentions Obed Dominguez, Christian Hernandez, Angel Rios, and Jesus Ortiz.

Other notables include Midfielder (hybrid position) selections, Kevin Garcia 1st Team (7 goals, 7 assists), Honorable Mentions, Domenique Roustand (7 assists), Mayson Vazquez (15 steals), Edgar Ulloa, Eli Vasquez (15 steals), and Manuel Trejo.

Forward selections were Josue Trejo 2nd Team (6 goals, 4 assists), Honorable Mentions Mikel Sosa (12 goals, 4 assists), and Jesus Cordova.

The boys team finished this year with a 13-13 overall record and just missed the playoffs with a 9-7 district record.

On another note, PI coach Chris Ortiz and seniors Trejo, Herrera, and Ulloa participated in the East vs West All-Star game this week. Regulation ended in a 1-1 tie, with East taking the game 2-1 during penalty kicks.

Meanwhile in golf, Maria Ramirez was selected to the girl’s 2nd Team All-District team.

Golf superlatives included PI’s golf head coach Fernando Lopez being named Coach of the Year, Justin Garza selected as the districts’ Most Valuable Player, and Edward Garza was selected as Newcomer of the Year. Garza was also selected to the boys’ 2nd Team All-District.

Carter Taylor closed out the year as 1st Team All-District.

At the Spring Sports ceremony, coach Lopez recognized J. Garza for being the district’s back-to-back district champion. Garza’s hard work and determination over the years paid off, as he has long history of competition dating back to 2016 when he was competing in the co-ed 6-8 (age) 9-hole division.
