Point Isabel Independent School District is once again helping families keep children fed and healthy during the summer months through its free Summer Meals Program.

The district’s Food Service Department is providing nutritious meals at no cost to all children 18 years of age and younger, as well as enrolled students with disabilities up to age 21. The program is offered through the Seamless Summer Option, a U.S. Department of Agriculture nutrition initiative administered in Texas by the Texas Department of Agriculture.

School officials say the program plays an important role in ensuring children continue to have access to healthy meals while school is out of session.

“Port Isabel children need good nutrition year-round so they can learn, grow and succeed in life,” said Angela Olivares, PIISD Food Service Director. “With nearly 2 million food insecure children living in Texas, these healthy meals are vital to nourishing young Texans during the summer vacation.”

The district recently highlighted one of its student favorites, Crispy Beef Fresh Tacos, as part of its summer menu offerings. Officials say meals are designed to provide the nutrition children need while also serving foods students enjoy.

For many families, school meals serve as a reliable source of daily nutrition during the academic year. Summer meal programs help bridge that gap when classes are not in session, ensuring children have access to healthy food and are prepared to return to school in the fall ready to learn.

Families can visit participating Point Isabel ISD campuses during designated meal service times. Information on meal locations and schedules is available by calling the district at 956-943-0000, extension 79, or by visiting www.pi-isd.net.

Additional resources are available through the statewide Summer Meals Program. Parents can visit SummerFood.org to use the interactive meal site locator map or text FOOD or COMIDA to 304-304 to find nearby meal sites.

District officials encourage all eligible families to take advantage of the program throughout the summer, noting that no child should go hungry while school is out of session.
