The Port Isabel Tarpons took the bus to Progreso last Friday and returned with their second district win in as many games. They topped the Red Ants, 69-41, and in so doing moved into a first-place tie in District 32-3A with a 2-0 record.
“We came out a little rusty in the first quarter,” Head Coach Al Senteno reported by telephone on Saturday. “We played pretty good defense.”
Victor “Bucky” Rivera had his best night as a Tarpon, as he scored 28 points (two 3-pointers) to lead the way for Port Isabel. “Most of his points came in the paint,” Senteno said. “He’s got that little hook shot.” Hector Guevara had 10 points (one 3-pointer), and Jimmy Puentes and Alan Barrera each scored seven.
