It took a special meeting, a plea from the Mayor and a push from representatives from TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation), but Tuesday night city officials in Port Isabel approved to match the funds from South Padre Island that will assist in opening up the second lane of the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway before spring break.
Mayor Joe Vega motioned at the beginning of the meeting to match the $15,000 pledged last week by the Island, but there was no second.
The Mayor reasserted his concerns and asked once again with the same result.
“This is something I think the city needs to do,” said Vega.
