Amid talk of position forfeiture for excessive absences, and following a vote on the issue at Tuesday’s Laguna Vista Town Council meeting, officials unanimously agreed that Bill Schnier would remain a member of the city’s governing board.

A forfeiture of office agenda item at the session called for “Discussion to set the hearing date for the forfeiture of office of William R. ‘Bill’ Schnier, Council Member, Place 6, for failing to attend more than six meetings in this calendar year.” The item had been placed on the agenda upon a citizen request, officials said.

The matter stemmed from a reported 11 missed Town meetings by Schnier. However, Schnier argued that those absences came during the months of July and August after he had been granted formal approval for a leave of absence on a vote by the Town Council.
