Shindig, expo headline weekend events

PRESS Staff Report

The always popular chili cook-off, originally slated for this weekend, may have been canceled, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of area activities set for this weekend.

The 3rd Annual Surfrider Foundation South Texas Chapter Surfrider Shindig: Music and Art for Our Oceans, Waves and Beaches, is set for Feb. 4 at Louie’s Backyard. The day-long celebration kicks off with a “Paint-Off” at Gravity Park across from Louie’s between 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and will feature Corpus Christi’s acclaimed surf artist John Olvey, Harlingen native and Galveston area resident surfer Julissa Hampton, South Padre Island’s William Lloyd and South Padre Island’s own Sea Gypsy Becky McCormack, who will be on hand to turn surfboards, skimboards, chairs, driftwood or anything else into customized personal pieces of art for the attendee for small donations to the Surfrider Foundation South Texas Chapter.
