Beach Reach expects record turnout

Spring BreakComing to a Spring Break near you is the Beach Reach Ministries, beginning March 10 thru March 16 on South Padre Island.

Beach Reach, however, is a little different as it began in 1980 as Buddy Young, Director of the West Texas A&M University Baptist Student Ministry, and a group of students, camped on the beach in SPI and shared the gospel with spring breakers, according to their website. The Beach Reach ministries have now expanded to various free ‘acts of kindness,’ including free breakfast, water, sunscreen, rides, midnight pancake breakfast, sand sculpture and more – all this in an effort to ‘share the gospel of Jesus Christ in creative ways.’

Mary K. Hancock, City of SPI Special Event Manager, said, “Beach Reach will have over 700 students attending and 70 vans accommodating students with free rides this year… they will be here March 12-16…this is a record number!”
