Scott Friedman, proprietor of Pirate’s Landing Restaurant, recent RGV Walk of Fame inductee and University of Texas-Brownsville board member, says there are upwards of 950 indentified UTB alum/attendees here in the Greater Laguna Madre Area, and Friedman and the university want to bring them together for the betterment of the community as a whole.

“We want to establish an alumni base here for UTB, for the presence of UTB here,” Friedman said. To do that, Friedman said a party is being held at Pirate’s Landing on May 3 at 5:30 p.m. Friedman said the event will be free for alumni.

“The purpose is to let the university get a presence established in the Laguna Madre area,” Friedman explained. “And hopefully the alumni can then establish maybe scholarships, get them interested in going back to school, get the university programs out here; we’re just bridging the gap between the university and students and kind of seeing where this goes,” Friedman said.
